Driving home from a family vacation, we encountered a summer storm. The sky was so dark, and it was filled with large gray clouds that resembled mountains. Once the rain started, it was so heavy we couldn’t see anything, but pulling over seemed to be worse than continuing to drive. So, we just kept going.
After what seemed like forever, we finally made it through the storm into sunshine and dry ground. It was interesting to see that the ground on the other side of this fierce storm was completely dry, and the sun was shining. I think that is what makes traveling through the mountains so unpredictable.
We kept watching the drivers going in the opposite direction, heading straight for that storm, and wanting to tell them to turn back, but they couldn’t turn back because the only way to get where they were going was to drive through the rain.
The fierce winds, heavy rain, and snow that we have been experiencing lately had me thinking of that summer drive through the mountains. Sometimes circumstances can feel exactly like that drive—full of rain so heavy you can’t see, wind blowing from every direction.
Just like the wind that suddenly stops blowing and calm sets in, life does that too. At the end of a storm, the sun will shine. Remember that even when you can’t see but an inch in front of you, just keep going slowly until you make it to the other side. A rainbow only comes after the rain, bringing with it all its beauty.
